Jon Ball - Summer of '42

Jon Ball’s setup for Summer of ’42 at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania.

“The TrapKAT 5KS is for the timpani and chimes cues. Our MD did some re-orchestration, and they added back some material that had been cut from the off-Broadway production. I programmed one bell lick to the TrapKAT during a new dance sequence because there wasn't enough time to change to bell mallets and spin around to the glockenspiel. Overall, the part has a lot of stick/mallet changes to keep you busy.

This theater has an unusual balcony pit in which the bass player and I are on the other side of a wall from the rest of the orchestra. Sometimes I can see the MD through a door frame in the wall. We have a conductor cam, but the monitor they gave the bass player and me is placed where it is practically useless, but we're doing the best we can do!”
